Y’all, there are so many talented Black wedding vendors in Austin that you need to hire.
The murder of George Floyd has forced millions of Americans to wake up and reckon with systemic racism in the United States. As someone who first became an advocate for the Black Lives Matter movement after the murder of Mike Brown in 2015, it’s encouraging to see people raise their voices in support of the movement.
However, this moment in the movement has also caused me to take a step back and look into how I could be a better co-conspirator. As Austin becomes the fastest-growing metropolitan area in the country, it gets less diverse every year. And I realize that I’ve grown complacent in the ways that I fight for justice.
It’s not enough to sign petitions. Or to vote out racists and share informative memes on Instagram. It’s not enough to yell at people on Facebook or befriend Black people in Austin.
Specifically, I realized I did not know a lot of Black people in the Austin-area wedding industry. That is totally unacceptable. So I spent time doing research to expand my network and pool of Black wedding vendors recommendations.
As I update my comprehensive vendor list that I provide to my couples, the vendors listed below will be given priority.
Ps: Gotta give credit where credit is due. Special thanks to Alexandra White for creating this spreadsheet. Some of the recommendations included below were found thanks to this resource.
Did I miss any vendors that you love? Let me know!
