I love a good in-home photo session. There is no better way to really get to know a couple or family; you get to see how they live their lives, what they value, and people are the most comfortable in a space they’re intimately familiar with.
Their home is beautiful and so freakin’ them. We hung out in their cozy reading room, played Catan on a board they custom-made for their wood anniversary, and enjoyed golden hour in front of Rachel’s shed handmade by Scott. I even got to peek inside Rachel’s craft room, which was a Pinterest dream-come-true.
I first met Rachel last year, when I photograph an SXSW event she was coordinating. Rachel is the powerhouse behind R&R Events. She specializes in event management and planning, vendor management, event design, venue search, and decor design. I had such a great experience working with Rachel during SXSW that I hired her to flower our wedding.
In turn, Rachel hired me to take portraits of her and her husband, Scott, along with their two adorable doggies. If you can’t tell, Rachel values investing in local businesses just as much as I do. Working with and for each other has been a rewarding experience and a fun way to get to know each other.
I took these portraits in February 2020. In 2021, Rachel’s dog Odie passed away. Here’s what she had to say about what it meant to document her pup with TLC Photography:
“We said goodbye to our bestest boy. Our Odie dog…. Odie was a huge part of our life. He was loved by so many. Life sure has a way of working out the way it’s meant to sometimes. We booked TLC Photography last year for some family portraits because we hadn’t had any taken since we got married in 2011 and wanted some with our sweet pups. I’m so thankful we did. Thank you Tess for capturing so many great photos of our family. Because of you and the love you share through your work, we will cherish the photos that we have of our Odie boy. Thank you.”
